The Dogue de Bordeaux, also called the French Mastiff, is a short, stocky mastiff with a broad and heavy head. The muzzle should be no more than 1/3 of the total length of the head.The body is thickset with a short, straight topline and a gentle rounded croup. The front legs should be straight and heavy-boned. Dogue de Bordeaux have thick tails that taper to a point.
Dogue de Bordeaux have a short, soft coat that come in shades of fawn to mahogany. They have a red or black mask around and under the nose and over the lips and the edge of the eyes. Some white markings are allowed on the tips of the toes and on the chest. However, white markings on the rest of the body is a fault.
Dogue de Bordeaux have a good and calm temperament. They are extremely loyal and very patient. They are excellent watch and guard dogs. Dogue de Bordeaux are gentle with children and other family members.
